According to a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, eighty-eight percent of the ocean today is filled with garbage. Over one million sea birds and 100,000 mammals are killed by marine pollution every year. The National Academy of Sciences estimated that 14 billion pounds of trash is being dumped into the ocean every year. That's more than 1.5 million pounds per hour. At Smyrna Robotics, we have decided to make a change. Our mission is to design and construct a robot that will clean up our world's once clean oceans to compete in the 2018 BEST Robotics competition.
